Are you a Type ABC Personality?
Ambitious but still with good balance.
You've heard of a Type A Personality right? Well, er, I've invented a new personality type - Type ABC. Because I feel like I've met an increasing amount of people over the last 6 months who are making a new way, in fact works better for them than Type A. It came about because they had to 'step back' from their hectic day to day life, not normally come through choice, but through necessity. I stepped back as well. I got ill and couldn't recover nearly as quickly as I'd like or expect. Which was a bit of a mare, but I'm properly on the mend now.
The question I was forced to ask myself was; are we nearing tipping point in our ability to cope with the stresses and strains of life that were always there (juggling work, family, relationships) combined with the new strains of modern technology (never switching off, never letting go, technology encroaching into our downtime)? I thought of myself as someone who had plenty of balance. But trying to cram a million things into every day (even if some of them were 'fun' or relaxation based) I think ended up meaning when I got ill my body just wanted to take a rest, and ended up rebelling a bit.
So I was forced to step back, and properly consider the mind-body connection. Result - I chilled the hell out.
Now by doing a bit less, I can get a bit more balance. It's not a huge change, but it does mean less stress, less tension = happier, calmer. I'm not quite sure what drove me to 'get so much done' previously, especially workwise, but it's been a good chance to take stock.
This new way? I'm calling it the Type ABC Personality. Ambitious (But Chilled).
Of course, as always I don't claim to have all or any of the answers, but just offer up a few options. And it's working for me at the moment.
Oh, and by the way the research suggests that non-Type-A personalities get just as many top jobs and 'successes' as Type As, just without the accompanying stresses, health issues and general tension.
