But could you do it? Would you work 80% of the time for 4/5ths of the salary? If you could afford the choice (a big 'if'), would you be better off with a) the extra money, or b) the extra time to spend with family, friends, recreation, learning, working out, etc.
And would you use any extra time off wisely? I used to play football every week with friends. One evening, in the middle of our game, my friend’s phone rang. He stopped, ran over to the side of the pitch. Instead of switching it off, he answered it. ‘Hello . . . Yeah . . . I’m just playing football . . . Yup . . . OK, I’ll call you when I’m finished.’ This was not very relaxing for him, and not very relaxing for his team-mates either! The irony is that we sometimes allow ourselves to be distracted at the times of the week we most look forward to. He loves his football, and yet he interrupted it for a call he didn’t need to take.
(On the back of this I had a killer idea for a - surely - best-selling book. "The Time Millionaire". Alas, a quick google search revealed it's already been done. About ten times. Ah well. Might write 'The Thyme Millionaire' instead.)
But if you did have an extra day a week off, what would you do with it? Would you make it count? Because there's not much point in having three days off a week if you don't make best use of two.
